KANAGA word comes from the Dogon tribe of mail. The KANAGA is regarded as one of the most important masks to the animist dogon.it represent their God, amma, creator of heaven and earth. The two raised arms symbolise the sky, the middle the universe and two lower arms the earth. The colours also have meanings; white is happiness, black darkness and red is the blood of sacrifice. kANAGA mask is worn during the drama dancing ceremonies. The Dogon believed that the drama dance creates a bridge into the supernatural world, without drama dance the dead cannot cross over into peace. Through such rituals, the Dogon believed that the benevolent force of the ancestor is transmitted to them

KANAGA chair is made of wood, metal and polished deep brass engraved with tribal scarification. The scarification involves the use of both industrial and manual welding techniques and science to embody the tribal scars. the chair directly mimics the shape of the KANAGA mask for its form the two raised arms and two lower arms as well as the mask cover, forms the backrest with fur to represent the leather joining and edges.
