AFAR are a Cushitic speaking ethnic group inhabiting the horn of Africa. They primarily live in the afar region of Ethiopia and in northern Djibouti, as well as the entire southern coast of Eritrea. The AFAR pendant light draws its inspiration from the sophisticated hairstyle of the AFAR women of Djibouti. The hairstyle features a wrap of ornamentation around a braided or natural hair, or in some cases covers the face, with two to three elevated multicoloured wooden straw attached to the back of the hair. This hairstyle is usually worn with a complete traditional AFAR attire during marriages or ceremonial functions.
AFAR pendant light is created as a symbol of beauty.
PRODUCT FEATURES
AFAR pendant light is made of metal and polished deep brass engraved with tribal scarification. The scarification involves the use of both industrial and manual welding techniques and science to embody the tribal scars. The pendant light directly mimics the sophisticated hairstyle of the AFAR people in its design. Illumination happens through the tinted glass oval bulb.
