AKUABA comes from the Akan legend of a woman akua who was barren in Ghana. AKUABA mirror was inspired by the FANTE fertility doll. The FANTE doll was traditionally carried by women on their backs and believed it will bring pregnancy and a healthy childbirth. the Ashanti women would dress the embryo appearing figure with cloths and adorn with jewellery as an expression of idealized beauty, they are supposed to Favor the appearance of their future children. The doll features a big-headed motif with joint eyebrows and nose, as well as suspended arms attached to a cylindrical body.

The scarification involves the use of both industrial and manual welding techniques and science to embody the tribal scars. the pendant light mimics the embryo looking form of the FANTI doll in form of glass with the joint eyebrows and nose coated and polished with brass, The form is embraced with jewellery as seen with the FANTE doll.
