DJENE is a Songhai town in the inland Niger delta region of Mali. This dining table was inspired by the architecture of the buildings in DJENE. Their architecture is famous for its Sudanese style. Nearly all the buildings in the town, including the great mosque, are made from the sun-baked earthen bricks which are coated with plaster. The dome of the building façade carries wooden protrusion to allow for replastering and maintenance.
DJENE dining table was created as a symbol of cultural heritage.
PRODUCT FEATURES
DJENE dining table is made of metal, wood, glass and polished deep brass engraved with tribal scarification. The scarification involves the use of both industrial and manual welding techniques and science to embody the tribal scars. The dining table directly mimics the Sudanese architecture style of DJENE for its main form, embraced with a glass or marble top as the case may be.
