EKONDA is an ethnic group belonging to mongo people living In Africa’s equatorial forest in Congo. This chair draws its inspiration from the curved nature of the copper anklet, or bracelet currency of the EKONDA people. To create this bracelet the artist poured molten metal directly into the cast in the ground called a puddle Mold. As the metal cooled it was wrapped into a circular shape and often even fitted directly to the wearers body worn with vegetable fiber protecting the legs. They were recognised as a symbol of wealth and status among the EKONDA people.
