IVORY coast got it’s a name from the extensive trade in elephant tusks or ivory. A profitable trade in ivory existed in the 17th century and gave the area its name. however, the resulted in a decline in elephant population that ended the ivory trade by the beginning of the 18th century. Other African countries involved in the ivory trade in Africa includes Botswana, south Africa, Namibia, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, DR Congo, Cameroon, Zimbabwe.

IVORY divider is made of metal and polished deep brass engraved with tribal scarification. The scarification involves the use of both industrial and manual welding techniques and science to embody the tribal scars. The divider embodies the shape of an elephant tusks or ivory for its form, featuring three-fold steel forms of equal hight, with ivory tusks stacked to meet the fold forms at the top.
