LUBA or BALUBA is indigenous ethnic group in the south-central region of Democratic Republic of Congo. LUBA society consist of miners, smiths, woodworkers, potters, crafters and people of various professions. the figurative bellows surmounted by a finely sculpted forms as shown was not only a crucial component of blacksmith, but also a powerful symbol of important connections between metalworking arts and sacred kingship. The blacksmith artisans used this bellows to produce air in preparing fire to melt precious metals such as gold, brass, silver and bronze for royal ornaments.
LUBA bar stool is created as a symbol that represents the artisanal labour in kingship ornament.
PRODUCT FEATURES
LUBA bar stool is made of wood, polished deep brass with tribal scarification. The scarification involves the use of both industrial and manual welding techniques and science to embody the tribal scars. the Bar stool mimics the forms of the LUBA bellows. the two round air passage becomes part of the upholstered back rest and the vertical form that holds the round form of the bellows. The LUBA stool is finished with brass with tribal scars.
