MANGBETU are a tribal people in central Africa, in north eastern Congo. The MANGBETU people are well known for their elongated head which informed their hairstyle. The MANGBETU had a distinct look and this was partly due to their elongated heads. At birth the heads of the babies were tightly wrapped with cloth in other to give their heads the streamlined look. this custom of skull elongation was a status symbol among the MANGBETU ruling classes at the beginning of the century and was later emulated by neighbouring groups, evolved as a general idea of beauty.
