MBOLE are an ethnic group of about 150,000 people living in southwest Kisangani in the DR Congo. The side table was inspired by the copper currency of the MBOLE people. This MBOLE currency were modelled as anklets usually worn around the ankle as a display of wealth, achievement and status by both men and women in the community. These anklet copper currencies were used for major but rear transactions, as well as exchanged during marriage ceremonies.
MBOLE side table was created as a symbol of wealth and societal status.
PRODUCT FEATURES
MBOLE side table is made of metal, organic marble, polished brass engraved with tribal scarification. The scarification involves the use of both industrial and manual welding techniques and science to embody the tribal scars. The side table features the anklet currency stacked on 2 levels with one placed in an upright position to carry the marble top.
