PESA means money in Swahili. Cowry shells symbolized power, prestige and wealth. But cowries are also aesthetically pleasing, and that made them valuable as means of currency and exchange. Cowry shells were also employed in ritual and divination practice mostly in west Africa and some other parts of Africa. Cowries were also a symbol of fertility. Women often wore a necklace with one cowry around their neck or waist as Goodluck charm. PESA divider was inspired by the cowry shell.
PESA divider was created as a symbol of power, prestige, wealth and fertility.
PRODUCT FEATURES
PESA divider is made of metal, and polished deep brass engraved with tribal scarification. The scarification involves the use of both industrial and manual welding techniques and science to embody the tribal scars. This divider directly mimics the shape of a cowrie shell in its design, featuring two-fold steel forms of equal hight, with cowrie shell stacked to meet the fold forms at the top.
