TSONGA is an ethnic group primarily in the southern part of Mozambique and south Africa, and a very small number in countries like Zimbabwe and Eswatini. The TSONGA chair was inspired by the headrest of the TSONGA people. The TSONGA headrest is a stylistic representation of form that the TSONGA carvers have developed to sleep while at the same time protecting the elaborate coiffure of the sleeper. The headrests are small, their hight being the average distance from ear to shoulder. The headrest is usually unique to each person. Depending on status and community ranks.

The scarification involves the use of both industrial and manual welding techniques and science to embody the tribal scars. the chair embodies the shape of the TSONGA headrest. the chair uses the curved neckrest to form its upholstery and overall form.
