TURKANA are a tribal people that occupy Kenya and parts of Uganda Ethiopia and South Sudan. The TURKANA headboard was inspired by the headrest of the TURKANA people. The TURKANA headrest is a stylistic representation of form that the TURKANA carvers have developed to sleep while at the same time protecting the elaborate coiffure of the sleeper. The headrests are small, their hight being the average distance from ear to shoulder. The headrest is usually unique to each person. Depending on status and community ranks. These headrests are often buried with the owner or passed on to another generation.
TURKANA headboard represents the peculiarity of human as well as status.
PRODUCT FEATURES
TURKANA headboard is made of wood, polished deep brass engraved with tribal scarification. The scarification involves the use of both industrial and manual welding techniques and science to embody the tribal scars. The headboard embodies the curved nature of the TURKANA neckrest and the strap carrier in its design.
