AKUABA comes from the Akan legend of a woman akua who was barren in Ghana. AKUABA chair was inspired by the FANTE fertility doll. The FANTE doll was traditionally carried by women on their backs and believed it will bring pregnancy and a healthy childbirth. the Ashanti women would dress the embryo appearing figure with cloths and adorn with jewellery as an expression of idealized beauty, they are supposed to Favor the appearance of their future children. The doll features a big-headed motif with joint eyebrows and nose, as well as suspended arms attached to a cylindrical body.

AKUABA chair is created to symbolize fertility and health for the Ashanti empire.
