ISICHOLO is a hat that completes the attire of the Zulu or northern Nguni women. The ISICHOLO hat represent and extension of traditional hairstyles and can symbolise cultural, social and personal meanings. The form of the ISICHOLO, or married woman’s hat developed form a 19th century colonial hairstyle. It was worn as a sign of respect to one’s husband and his family like a modern wedding ring. In the early 20th century, a removable hat replaces the hairstyle. the form is a flaring disklike shape, is constructed of the human hair the reddish hue associates with beauty and femininity.

PRODUCT FEATURES
ISICHOLO table lamp is made of metal and polished deep brass engraved with tribal scarification. The scarification involves the use of both industrial and manual welding techniques and science to embody the tribal scars. The table lamp directly mimics the shape of the ISICHOLO hat in its design. Illumination happens through a glass bulb in the form.
