KONTIGI is a one stringed African lute played by the Hausa, Songhai and Djerma. The 3-string version is used among the Tamashek. This instrument is used in music primarily in Nigeria, Niger, Benin, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon and Mali. The instrument uses a calabash gourd as the body of the instrument, covered by skin, with a stick for a neck. The neck has a metal disk surrounded by small rings which make noise as the instrument is moved or played. This floor lamp draws its inspiration form this instrument.
KONTIGI floor lamp is created as a symbol of rhythm.
PRODUCT FEATURES
KONTIGI floor lamp is made of metal, polished brass engraved with tribal scarification. The scarification involves the use of both industrial and manual welding techniques and science to embody the tribal scars. This floor lamp directly mimics the shape and form of the KONTIGI instrument for its design. Illumination happens through the bowlike looking form attached the vertical rod.
