MAKOROTLO is a hat worn by the people of Lesotho. This hat is widely recognised and often seen been worn by locals and visitors alike. This conical headpiece woven of reeds with decorative topknot in various shapes and style are seen in curio shops, at traditional ceremonies and gathering, as present to visiting dignitaries and everyday wear. The topknot is a symbol of the countries unification as said to depict the mountain top that sits upon the Thaba Bosiu mountain plateau

MAKOROTLO suspended light is made of metal, fabric shader and polished deep brass engraved with tribal scarification. The scarification involves the use of both industrial and manual welding techniques and science to embody the tribal scars. The suspended light directly mimics the shape of the MAKOROTLO hat in its design, Illumination happens inside the form through a white glass bulb.
