MENDE are one of the two largest ethnic group in Sierra Leone and some parts of Liberia. This pendant light draws its inspiration from the Sande mask worn by the MENDE people. The SANDE society initiate girls into adulthood by rituals including female genital mutilation. This mask embodies ideals of physical and moral beauty, goodness and the spirit of the women society. This mask features a high forehead, downcast eyes, and elaborate coiffure that suggest the pinnacle of female attractiveness among the Mende people. These masks are usually worn during women dance rituals and initiation.

PRODUCT FEATURES
MENDE pendant light is made of metal and polished deep brass engraved with tribal scarification. The scarification involves the use of both industrial and manual welding techniques and science to embody the tribal scars. The pendant light embodies the shape of the SANDE mask in its design. Illumination happens through the tinted glass bulb.
