PESA means money in Swahili. Cowry shells symbolized power, prestige and wealth. But cowries are also aesthetically pleasing, and that made them valuable as means of currency and exchange. Cowry shells were also employed in ritual and divination practice mostly in west Africa and some other parts of Africa. Cowries were also a symbol of fertility. Women often wore a necklace with one cowry around their neck or waist as Goodluck charm. PESA suspended light was inspired by the cowry shell.
PESA suspended light was created as a symbol of power, prestige, wealth and fertility.
PRODUCT FEATURES
PESA pendant light is made of metal, and polished deep brass engraved with tribal scarification. The scarification involves the use of both industrial and manual welding techniques and science to embody the tribal scars. This light directly mimics the shape of a cowrie shell in its design. Illumination happens through five tinny glass bulbs enclosed on the form.
